In just a few clicks, the Schedule Toolkit allows me to open a primavera file in excel giving me access to fundamental project management tools in a more enhanced user friendly environment.
The initial benefit is having access to principle progress tracking tools. In just 2 clicks I can view the programme to any desired work breakdown level against the baseline enabling me to quickly establish if activities are ahead or behind programme. Another key feature is the ability to view just the milestones within the programme, providing a high level view of the project progress and enabling me to pinpoint problem areas. To supplement the progress view there is also a shortcut to instantly view the project critical path.
If I want to focus on a particular aspect of the project, the Toolkit provides me with pre-defined codes and enhanced time slice options – This was of particular use when I wanted to view the next 12 weeks of only the civil and structural activities.
Pre-defined codes enables easy subcontractor communication, by quickly presenting me with their activities. I can then share this activity view, in Excel, with my subcontractor to use as a basis for them to update progress with comparison to the baseline.
The key advantage of the Toolkit is having access to the entire cost loaded programme information and with the enhanced features of the Toolkit, I can quickly and easily review, interrogate and use the reports to make informed project management decisions.
With just one click, I have a view of both the baseline and project allowances, together with the associated quantities. The Toolkit also calculates the remaining allowance from what has actually been spent, in the same simple to read table.
This direct access to the loaded programme also enables me to have quick access to staff and site resources where I can see resource histograms and s-curves for any resource or desired output. This has been highly beneficial to the understanding of the programme and to monitor actual resources.
I can then combine all of the information in a fully customisable Dashboard, enhancing reports for both internal and clients needs. The advantage of using the Toolkit for reporting is that it is simple and quick, with the ability to share between all of the project stakeholders, in Excel, eliminating specialist software and expediting communication and understanding. With it being in Excel, this allows me to talk through the programme in client meetings, freeing up the planners time and without the need for specialist software.
